The Government have announced plans to transfer Children’s social care in Sandwell over to a trust.
GMB Sandwell Branch Secretary Darren James, said following staff briefings earlier today:
“We are extremely disappointed by the announcement made by Edward Timpson (Minister of State for Vulnerable Children and Families at Department for Education) today regarding the future of Children’s Services in Sandwell, especially as an Ofsted monitoring report, which has also been released today, highlights the improvements made by the council and our members with regard to the service for our young people.
Whilst we are not in agreement with the decision, GMB are committed to working with the DfE and the council, who have also expressed their disappointment with this outcome, to ensure that our members are not adversely affected by the creation of a Trust which in turn will ensure the best outcome for youngsters in the borough”
